No Easy Place

  • Rice Pudding 91 Constable Street Te Whanganui-a-Tara (map)

Artist - Justine Fletcher

Artist statement -

Justine is a Part Two MFA student at Massey University Toi Rauwhārangi. Her project No Easy Place is the manifestation of the second step in the destruction of four axes she inherited. During the period of the exhibition she will take the chain and blanket they have been transformed into to the Massey Memorial at Kaitawharo Point Halswell in Miramar at scheduled intervals, where they will act as counter-memorial ornaments.

A mapping project of Aotearoa’s 322 British Army fortifications in the form of the same number of plaster casts on the back wall of Rice Pudding is a connecting backdrop. These ornaments are intended to be taken away by anyone who would like them, as objects of reflection on the connection of past to present, and to what kind of future we want to work toward.

Join Justine Fletcher to open her exhibition No Easy Place on Thursday 16 May from 5.30pm

Open Saturdays and Sundays 11am to 3pm, Tuesdays to Fridays 11am to 2pm (or view through the window 24/7)
