Artist - Ric Brown
A fanciful series of sculptures depicting New Zealanders and their animals - exemplifying Saintly nominative determinism.
Ric Brown, originally from Glasgow (UK), has a BA (hons) in Fine Art Sculpture from Bath Spa University, and has a background in graphics, stone-carving and letter cutting.
In the UK, he won several awards for graphic design and sculpture, was active member of several artist-led organisations and galleries, curating a range of exhibitions and events.
He has also produced large scale sculpture for private, public and commercial organisations,
been an artist in residence, and taught letter-cutting and sculpture.
Much of his work is conceived through wordplay, puns and the ambiguity of language, the title often informing the concept and vice versa.
Since moving to NZA [2019] Ric has received Merit Awards from the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, Franklin Arts, and been a finalist in multiple Open Shows, including the RT Nelson Awards for Sculpture.
